Dr. Tony Evans has been quoted as saying: “Faith is acting like something is so even when it is not so in order that it might be so simply because God said so.”
In Hebrews 11, the author gives a list of people who simply believed God, even when it didn’t make sense to do so, and their great faith is celebrated. These lives were not unlike yours or mine. They were ordinary people, living ordinary lives accomplishing extraordinary (more…)
Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith… (1 Peter 5:8-9, NIV)
Satan attacks our thoughts, making us doubt God’s goodness, power, protection, and love. Lions look for weakness. Satan knows where we are hesitant to believe scripture. He distracts us by circumstances, by interpretations, and by whispering into our minds. Taking our focus away from truth, we are easily attacked. However, if we ignore his words, if we mediate on scripture, if we stand firm in the faith given by God, Satan will leave us alone. Lions are lazy; if the antelopes are too alert, the lions will lie back down under a shade tree.
“The most satisfying aspect of composing a post is when God gives me the inspiration for what to write. I have such an urgency to start sharing the ideas. I experience great joy learning someone took the time to read it and benefited from the effort. I promised God that if He guides me in what to say, I will be vulnerable, honest in this public forum.”
A testimony of one of the Ask God Today Contributors:
Jayna Coppedge wants to be known as “A Woman Trusting God” because that is her new nature. Even as a Christian, fear of rejection, fear of the future, and fear of failure colored every decision she made. She was a diligent follower of Jesus and a church staff member for more than 15 years before she truly understood God’s unconditional love: “I taught about God’s grace without ever feeling God’s acceptance.” (more…)
“I can say Merry Christmas, but I am not wishing anyone a Happy New Year.” My friend shocked me with her words. She continued, “I am so scared; I think God is punishing our nation and things are just going to keep getting worse.” Although I hadn’t heard it expressed exactly like that, I am hearing fear and panic in the words around me, especially from believers.
As I held the 2-month-old baby girl and listened to the translator, I prayed. It was December 23; we had brought food for the family of five. Always hospitable, the Syrian refugees insisted that we come into their home for coffee. The living room/ bedroom was the size of a king size bed. Nevertheless, this family was fortunate the father had a job. Many refugees lived in homes made from scavenged trash.
The most memorable part of the visit was the gesture the father made as he spoke. He made a cutting motion with his right index finger from the back of his neck to the front of his throat. I did not need the translator; he was speaking of a beheading.
