Have you ever watched the Tour de France? Packs of bicyclists power through the mountains in Europe, often topping speeds of 70 mph on their descent. This can make for horrific crashes when a cyclist misjudges a curve, slick road, or the distance between him and the cyclist (more…)
I spent ten days in 2009 and 2010 teaching Vacation Bible School, making home visits, training church laypeople, and sightseeing in a small town in Utah. When someone volunteers to go on a “mission trip” their motivation is to improve the lives of others. What really happens is that their own life is enriched, their faith grows, and they learn much more than they teach.
Are you discouraged? Do you feel like giving-up? You resolve to do better, only to slip back into your default. You are in good company. Look at what Paul said.
Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith… (1 Peter 5:8-9, NIV)
Satan attacks our thoughts, making us doubt God’s goodness, power, protection, and love. Lions look for weakness. Satan knows where we are hesitant to believe scripture. He distracts us by circumstances, by interpretations, and by whispering into our minds. Taking our focus away from truth, we are easily attacked. However, if we ignore his words, if we mediate on scripture, if we stand firm in the faith given by God, Satan will leave us alone. Lions are lazy; if the antelopes are too alert, the lions will lie back down under a shade tree.

A testimony of one of the Ask God Today Contributors:
Jayna Coppedge wants to be known as “A Woman Trusting God” because that is her new nature. Even as a Christian, fear of rejection, fear of the future, and fear of failure colored every decision she made. She was a diligent follower of Jesus and a church staff member for more than 15 years before she truly understood God’s unconditional love: “I taught about God’s grace without ever feeling God’s acceptance.” (more…)
