I vacillate between dread, disgust, and fear when I listen to the world news. It appears that much of what I value is disappearing. I hurt as I see others suffering. I can relate to the prophet Isaiah, because God told him that Judah, his home, would be destroyed.
“Then I said, ‘For how long, Lord?’ And he answered: ‘Until the cities lie ruined and without inhabitant, until the houses are left deserted and the fields ruined and ravaged, until the Lord has sent everyone far away and the land is utterly forsaken.’” Isaiah 6:11, 12
God has not told me personally that my country will soon lie in ruins, but I no longer see Christian values reflected in my community. Gambling is thought to be the best source to fund our schools. Denominations appear to be ignoring portions of scriptures, letting culture define marriage. When it comes to stewarding our natural resources, Christians seem to be irresponsible. I am uneasy about the political, environmental, and economic future. Perhaps it is my age, the media, or the pricking of the Holy Spirit, but I grieve more. Yet my pain is nothing compared to what Isaiah describes.
“A dire vision has been shown to me: . . . At this my body is racked with pain, pangs seize me, like those of a woman in labor; I am staggered by what I hear, I am bewildered by what I see. My heart falters, fear makes me tremble; the twilight I longed for has become a horror to me.” Isaiah 21:2-4
Even so, the prophet of hope writes:
” The desert and the parched land will be glad; the wilderness will rejoice and blossom. Like the crocus, it will burst into bloom; it will rejoice greatly and shout for joy. Say to those with fearful hearts, “Be strong, do not fear; your God will come . . . to save you.’” Isaiah 35:1, 4 (more…)
Hello I am posting from Naples, Florida. I am at the beach for the week on vacation with my sister. What a great day to be able to wake up and know God loves us. We can do this everyday! I love the verse Psalm 90:14, which says, “Satisfy us each morning with your unfailing love, so we may sing for joy to the end of our lives.” If you have received a “Joy Beyond” book signed from me, this is the verse I write to everyone who buys the book. This verse reminds us that God satisfies, and He loves us with an unfailing love, that only He can provide. We are given one life to live and we may sing for joy until the end of it! Or, we can let life suck the joy out of us. The choice is (more…)
Have you ever thought about asking God for joy?
In Philippians 4:4, Paul was giving words of encouragement and he said:
“Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice!” (NLT)
Even as believers, we let ourselves get stripped of joy sometimes because the world just throws us curve balls every once in awhile. But God wants us to always be full of joy!
So I asked myself, “How?” How can we always have joy in this crazy world (more…)
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2 (NIV)
I have a Joy challenge going on through email and a private Facebook group. I would love for you to join. You can sign up here: 28 Day Joy Challenge
I am so excited about everybody who has stepped up to try to live more joyful lives, even when we have difficult days.
3 Ways you can challenge yourself to have more daily joy!
1. Take your thoughts today and ask yourself is it true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and praiseworthy.
2. Get out of your head today. Do not worry! Instead of worrying about your problem, pray and lay it at the feet of Jesus.
Our thoughts can steal our joy.
Sometimes, we may find ourselves thinking of all the things that could possibly happen or go wrong, which in turn bums us out. My sweet husband, Jeff, tells me sometimes, “Get out of your head, Brenda.”
It is called worry. We are borrowing trouble off tomorrow before tomorrow even gets here. Half the time what we worry about never even happens, does it?
God wants our thoughts to be focused on Him first and foremost every day.
3. Practice handing your thoughts, problems and everything to Him today. Try to picture yourself giving your situation to Jesus, whatever it is!
As a result of being obedient to this practice, He promises His peace will be with us!
Join the challenge here and you will start walking in the freedom of JOY!
