God’s Word is the Key to Overcoming the Enemy. @DeAnna_Morris3 Click To Tweet

Scripture excerpts from Psalm 18 The Message:

I love you, God-
you make me strong.
God is bedrock under my feet,
the castle in which I live,
my rescuing knight.
My God—the high crag
where I run for dear life,
hiding behind the boulders,
safe in the granite hideout.

For me it happened in 2006. An onslaught of challenges and relationships changes, our character and integrity questioned. It was an exciting place of new ministry with the start of Oak Pointe Church, but the ranks of the Enemy’s soldiers came in dark and menacing with whispered accusations designed to mentally, emotionally, and spiritually knock me off my feet.

A hostile world! I call to God
I cry to God to help me.
From his palace he hears my call;
my cry brings me right into his presence—
a private audience!

I fell hard into a pit of depression and found myself afraid to use the gifts God had given me. While I had been warned in a dream, I only understood it later as life progressed. The dream warned me that friends would turn on me with lies, I would experience a sense of drowning, and I would find myself in a cave of darkness pursued by an unseen enemy seeking to devour me.

But me he caught—reached all the way
from sky to sea; he pulled me out
of that ocean of hate, that enemy chaos,
the void in which I was drowning.
They hit me when I was down,
but God stuck by me.
He stood me up on a wide-open field;
I stood there saved—surprised to be loved!

It was a nightmare I have yet to forget, so vivid and I believe prophetic. I did not understand the ending of my dream until a few years ago when I began to “wake up” from the season of depression and fear. When . . .

I began to make up my mind to simply be who God has designed me to be and live in faith… Click To Tweet

without apologies or hesitation, more of the dream made sense. In my dream I “remembered” something and then the evil giant was no longer looming but tiny and unimportant. With the revelation, I was able to walk freely into the light of the open sunlight. I am so thankful for the light of God’s word.

Suddenly, God, you floodlight my life;
I’m blazing with glory, God’s glory!

If I only learned one thing during that long dark season of my soul, it is this: God’s word is the key to overcoming the enemy.

We must read God’s word, memorize it, and do what it says. I endeavored to memorize this descriptive chapter. It took a year, but I memorized it while I experienced it.

Psalm 18 from The Message is where my soul and mind found relief from the warfare raged against me in the heavenly places. It took a whole year to hide these words in my heart. Every day

I worked toward the goal of memorization @DeAnna_Morris3 Click To Tweet

God was working His health and restoration into my soul. I will not forget these words, the experience, or the victory I found by seeking God in His word.

But me he caught—reached all the way
from sky to sea; he pulled me out
of that ocean of hate, that enemy chaos,
the void in which I was drowning.
They hit me when I was down,
but God stuck by me.
He stood me up on a wide-open field

I stood there saved—surprised to be loved!

It’s now 2016 and I can confidently say God has rescued me from the season of the pit. Will there be more challenging times in the future? More than maybe.

It’s a high probability life will come at each of us with worries, cares, and storms. However, I have learned of the faithfulness of my God and He will not let us fall beyond where He can lift us up. Without Him, we are nothing, yet with Him, we have everything.

And This is why I sing and lead worship @DeAnna_Morris3 Click To Tweet at my church each week. Because God has rescued and healed me and I am comforted me in my weakness.

I sing to God, the Praise-lofty,
and find myself safe and saved.

Because of the imagery of Psalm 18 and the words of “It is Well” by Bethel Worship, I will leave you this link as my encouragement to you today.

What about you? Have you experienced the faithfulness of God through His word?

What Psalm is personal and speaks to you? Please leave a comment!
