When we envision our vacations we see ourselves resting on the beach, watching late-night movies and sleeping in every morning, eating good food, and having fun with our family and friends, along with visiting places we have never been.
Ahhh yes! How fun is that?
Don’t we wish we could be on a continuous vacation? Oh, I guess that is retirement. One day we will have the pleasure of being retired if we live long enough. If we don’t, then we will have the pleasure of resting in heaven, if we are believers in Christ.
This year my vacation was blessed with all of the things I listed above, but with the addition of planning a conference. Two weeks after our vacation, Ask God Today Ministries was scheduled to have our first Women’s Conference. Although we had been planning for almost a year, there were still details to plan and prepare.
Now that the conference is over, I can see what I believe are the top three necessities in planning a conference:
“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.” (Proverbs 16:3)
When planning the conference, we prayed and asked God to go before us. We lifted it up to Him many times and prayed for His will to be done. Guess what? His will was done. It didn’t look exactly like what we visualized, but I stand amazed at what God did through the event.
We prayed for hearts to be touched, and afterwards we have heard of many women who were overwhelmed with life and desired to be more in tune with God’s plans.
“Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” (Proverbs 19:21)
Has God convinced you to have a conference or an event of some sort? When planning an event, what is the purpose? Ask yourself, “Why are we doing this?”
Purpose is defined as the “reason for which something is done or created.” Without purpose, plans fail. Purpose provides the extra push when things get tough and don’t look like you imagined. Instead of focusing on the physical needs, we need to focus on the spiritual needs of others. The greatest purpose of all is to bring God glory. I wanted to touch lives for Him and bring Him glory.
“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” (Proverbs 27:17)
We need people to pray. People to plan. People to volunteer. People to attend.
Set your goals as to how many attendees you need.
Understand when selling tickets that people procrastinate
and wait until the last minute to purchase them.
The conference was far greater than I could have imagined. I learned that many times what we imagine is different than God’s plans. My faith was stretched during the conference as I waited on God’s timing. I never lost my faith, though, because when you plan ahead and your purposes line up with God’s, people will come according to His will.
Are you planning an event or conference in the future? I would love to hear about it in the comments.
