Hi everyone! My name is Ann Cooke.
It has been a pleasure to be involved with Ask God Today Ministries.
How were you called to write?
I was called to write when Brenda McGraw asked me to write a page in her book, Joy Beyond, about finding joy beyond the circumstances of a diagnosis of MS for my husband, Mike.
I had been writing down several things God had impressed upon me in a journal and just keeping them for “just the right time.” Then when she asked me to join the AGTM team I was delighted! God had spoken to me through a sermon at church about doing what you are called to do and I knew He was calling me to start a new chapter in my life; being a writer.
I was saved at eighteen. I grew up Catholic, but never realized why Jesus died on the cross. I didn’t understand about how He wanted a personal relationship with me. The first time I heard the Gospel preached I left the service not ever wanting to go back and saying “that man called me a sinner and I haven’t done anything wrong!” Well, needless to say, I did go back. God was drawing me to Him and about a month later I surrendered my life to Him.
I have never been the same!
I never thought I would be used to teach God’s word for thirty eight years. Nor did I ever think I would ever be used to mentor girls in a pregnancy center and children at a youth ranch. I also realized that the strength to do this was His, not mine.
God gives me strength to talk about my faith and yes, even to be a writer!
What I enjoy about writing:
I enjoy writing because the written word gives the reader a chance to slow down and digest what they are reading, to listen to what God is really saying through the writer to their heart.
My favorite place to pray:
is on my deck in the early morning watching the sun come up and seeing nature react. I feel really close to God when I’m out there. It is so quiet and peaceful and that’s when God speaks to me, before the day begins.
How I am most challenged in my spiritual life?
I find that time management is the most challenging in my spiritual life. Life can just get in the way sometimes and I put too many things on my plate. Then I try to do things on my own. Definitely not a good idea.
What is my life verse?
My life verse is 2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” We don’t have to worry about the past – they have passed away and we are made new to live this life for God with nothing holding us back. The next few verses in this passage tell us God has called us into the ministry of reconciliation. We are to be about the business of reconciling others to God, letting them know how much He loves them and wants to make their life new.
My question to you:
Have you been reconciled to God through Jesus Christ? Has there been a time when you surrendered your life to Him?
If not, please comment here and I will be glad to talk with you!
If you are in need of encouragement you can always reach me through AGTM.
