July is almost over. Parades have come and gone. Fireworks fade in our memory as they did in the sky, and flags are being taken down. But my thoughts are still on our country and the freedom we have to enjoy.
So many times Americans take their freedom for granted. Many fail to understand the true cost of the liberties we enjoy.
There is a song that we used to sing in school. The title is “Freedom Isn’t Free” and in the chorus are these words:
“Freedom isn’t free, freedom isn’t free
you gotta pay the price, you gotta sacrifice
for your liberty.”
No, our country’s freedom wasn’t free; its price was very high. Many valiant men willingly sacrificed their lives in order for us to have it.
There is another freedom that has been offered to us, one that delivers from the enslavement of sin. This freedom also involves sacrifice. Not of many lives, but of ONE LIFE. This life was given by God Himself through His son Jesus Christ , who willingly bore our sins on the cross so that you and I, through faith in Him, could have victory over the sin that enslaves us.
He sets us FREE!
Living in a free country definitely has its perks and benefits. I love living in America! Now, as a Christian, I have the freedom to really enjoy life! Those who are believers in Jesus Christ have overcome the world. (1John 5:5) Through Christ we have the freedom to love rather than hate. Freedom to forgive rather than harbor bitterness. Freedom to trust Him rather than worry. And freedom to enjoy fellowship with God rather than fear His wrath. All this is because of the power He gives us through His Holy Spirit.
So, my Christian friends, enjoy being free and enjoy being free indeed through Jesus Christ. (John 8:36) Rejoice in your salvation!
If you cannot rejoice because you don’t have this great salvation, I have good news. Today can be the day of your salvation! Believe Jesus is the son of God, not just a prophet or a good man.(1 John 5:20) Believe that He died for you and rose again, conquering death. Believe that He wants a personal relationship with you now on this earth and for eternity in Heaven. Ask Him to be your Lord and Savior. He will.
So then, the question is, have you been set free?
Please share with us in the comments. We would love to rejoice with you!
