rainTSbill2015It’s raining outside. After about five years of drought, we have been getting some unprecedented showers in the past couple of months. Our grass and leaves have never been as green as they are right now.

Did you know that God’s word is like rain? In Isaiah 55:10-11, He tells us so.

When it rains, the water doesn’t just bounce right back up to the sky. It wets the ground. Plants sprout and begin to grow, producing seed for gardeners and food to eat.

It’s the same with God’s word. Whenever we share it with someone, it doesn’t return to Him empty.

But I can’t word it better than God does.

“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.” Isaiah 55:10-11

When we put God’s word in our hearts, it is there “for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

God’s word is also there to encourage us and others.

“For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.” Romans 15:4

Just as a plant that receives rain grows, we are able to grow when we receive God’s word in our hearts.

As that plant grows it produces seeds which can then be planted. As we grow spiritually God uses the seed of His word that is planted in our hearts to help others.

Have you ever had a verse come to you when you are talking to someone? When that happens, God wants us to not be afraid to share it. Those verses we have in our hearts may be the only Biblical message some people will hear.

“How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?” Romans 10:14

When a garden is watered, the water doesn’t just bounce back to heaven without affecting the plant. In the same way, God’s word won’t bounce off the recipient of the message, either. We may not see the results right away, but we can be sure His message served its purpose.

Was there a time in your life when you helped someone or someone helped you through sharing God’s word at just the right time? Tell us your story in the comments. We love to hear from you.
