Words Of Affirmation From Our Heavenly Father
by Kimberly Penix
A few years ago our Sunday school class did a study on the book The 5 Love Languages, by Gary D. Chapman. It didn’t take me long to figure out my love language is words of affirmation.
Sure, I like to receive a beautiful bouquet of flowers and you’ll forever have a piece of my heart if you help with the laundry. But if you really want to make me feel loved, I need to hear it. Tell me you love my sense of humor. Go on about how great you thought my casserole tasted. Let me know you thought my opinion was spot on. Verbally express your gratitude for my help. Talk to me!
When I think about the way words speak to my soul, I love to go to scripture and embrace the words of affirmation the Father has written to me! To us!
First: “Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: Therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.” John 3:1
Second: “And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.” Corinthians 6:18
“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” John 1:12-13
Do you see that? God loves us so much that He calls us His children. I don’t know about you, but my children have a certain place in my heart reserved for them only. The fact that God opens His heart to receive us as His children, once we’ve accepted His gift of salvation, is nothing less than amazing!
More amazing still is the fact that nothing, absolutely NOTHING, can separate us from His love!
“Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Even though Satan knows I’m a child of the King, he often steps in and brings up my past. All my failures will come to mind in a devilish attempt to knock me on my face. If the evil one can keep us down, we’re ineffective for the kingdom. At times like this I have to run to scripture again for the affirming words of my Lord.
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” Second Corinthians 5:17
I can stand with confidence knowing Christ has put my past behind me and it no longer needs to impact my life. I am new in Him. I have access to this indescribable grace offered by God, and in that grace I can find peace and rest.
“Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.” Romans 5:1-2:
Dear friend, I pray that when you are feeling less than enough, you will run to God’s word and reaffirm His great love for you!
Would love to hear one of your favorite verses about God’s love in the comments!
