I am excited and very honored to introduce you today to Kimanzi Constable. Kimanzi is the author of “Are You Living or Existing.” He is doing just that. He quit his fulltime job and moved his family to Maui, Hawaii to live his dream. He is not only an author, he is an editor for the Good Men Project and a coach who is helping others learn how to live the dream God has called them to live. He is a writer for The Huffington Post, Entrepreneur Magazine and the Good Men Project. Kimanzi shares some great teaching with us today on how to build your website, how to increase your email list and how to live doing what you love. Please welcome Kimanzi by either leaving questions you may have for him or let him know how much you appreciate his time with us.

Brenda: Can you share a little about your backstory, how you became a believer in Christ and when you surrendered your life to the Lord?
Kimanzi: I accepted Jesus as my Savior in May 1994. I was the last person in my family to get saved. The Holy Spirit spoke to me and told me “It’s time.” I got saved young. Went to a Christian school. I rebelled and was away from the church ten years.
Going through that I took a horrible job delivering bread at midnight. It wasn’t so bad when I was 19 but as time went on and it was pretty rough life, especially with getting married and having young kids. Many struggles, trials, fights and money issues.
In 2011 it all came to a boiling point.
Brenda: Tell us a little bit about when you started writing.
Kimanzi: I didn’t feel like I had anybody I could talk to so I turned to writing, to get it out of my head and get it on paper…but I never thought it was something I could get paid for.
In June 2011, my wife and I were separated , I was a $180,000 in debt and 170 pounds over weight, so I started writing, by hand in a notebook. But I didn’t know what I could do with it.
In 2011 was when eBooks started becoming popular. So I thought if I could sell 1000 copies, which seemed reasonable with a decent income, that is what I would do. It was going to cost about $900 to get the book professionally done and I didn’t have this money. I was living less than paycheck-to-paycheck. But, that summer I was determined. So, I worked overtime at this job I hated, I cut grass, cleaned people’s houses, whatever it took to get this extra money, that is what I did to make this happen. When I got that $900 bucks it was like going to Disney Land.
I had a beautiful book and put it out to the world. I thought if I just put it out to the internet thing, somebody is going to buy it, because this is the internet, right?
I sold nothing. The first six months I sold 5 copies and 3 of those were to friends. It was depressing. I followed all the big gurus online and all the people doing it well, I followed their advice but it didn’t work.
Coming to the beginning of 2012 when I was pretty much ready to give up. I was told, “You can’t just follow what other people are doing, you have to figure this out for yourself.” That year I became a student of all this and I really started finding out what it was going to take for me.
That year I implemented some strategies and we can talk about those. That year I was able to get a half million visitors to my website. I self-published my 2nd book that year and that is when the publishers came knocking on my door. That is when my business started taking off.
Brenda: The name of your book is “Are You Living Or Existing” where you share 9 Steps to change your life. Your book became a success and sold over 80,000 copies.
Kimanzi: 82,000 yea.
Brenda: How did you do that? Can you tell us how you took your website and got your visitors. What are some tips you can share with us?
