My strength and life have failed me.
But, God never will. The song, “Wings As Eagles” by Phil Driscoll is the story we all live. At times, we are tired and weary. Life takes us places we wish we had not gone. We run and run, and never make it to where we want to go. Many times, we are running in our own strength. We wake up with our own agenda on our mind and head out the door without stopping, to even mutter a prayer to the Everlasting God. He is the God who created the universe, the stars, the mountains and the seas. He created all the living creatures and He created you and me.
My life was shattered when my first husband’s addiction to prescription drugs took him, our family, and me to places we didn’t want to go. Four years of counseling, rehabs and devastation finally led to divorce after 23 years of marriage. I was a new Christian, but I knew this wasn’t supposed to happen. Nevertheless, it did. I found myself all alone with two small children to raise. However, God is faithful.
I found peace, joy and strength through the Lord.
For a year and a half I bowed on my knees and cried tears of pain to God. I lifted my tears to the heavens and asked God not to let this be in vain. When we are weary, we can run to the arms of the Lord and put our hope in Him, He will renew our strength. The song, which is based on scripture, says, “They will run and not be weary, they will walk and not faint, they will mount up on wings as eagles; they that wait upon the Lord will renew their strength.”
“Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the Everlasting God!”
When we mount up as eagles and soar, we are allowing God to raise us above our circumstances and glide like an eagle high above what is weighing us down, which only He has the power to change. I have put my hope and trust in the Everlasting God. I know when I seek Him with all my heart, He gives me the strength I need to take one day at a time. When I am weak, He is strong.
“Have you never heard? Have you never understood?
The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth.
He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding.
He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless.
Even youths will become weak and tired, and young men will fall in exhaustion.
But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:28-31
