What Stirs Your Heart?           Heart Inspiration

Do you need a little inspiration sometimes? We all need inspiration to help us through a hard time, or a difficult task ahead,
or even when we are doubting ourselves. Maybe we are having a bad day or are saddened by a loss. Maybe you need to take the next step in your career or create something. Whatever we are facing, the power to inspire is beyond our own abilities. Inspiration comes from influences beyond ourselves.

Inspiration, by definition, is a divine influence or action on a person. Inspiration is the power of moving the intellect or emotions, or the act of influencing. We personally don’t have the power to inspire ourselves. It comes from a divine influence, something beyond ourselves.

So, what are some things which stir our hearts to movement?

  • Words
  • People
  • Creation
  • Circumstances
  • Scripture
  • Prayers
  • The Lord

“Beautiful words stir my heart. I will recite a lovely poem about the king, for my tongue is like the pen of a skillful poet. You are the most handsome of all. Gracious words stream from your lips. God himself has blessed you forever. (Psalms 45:1-2 NLT)

We may get our inspiration from the words of a song. Recently I heard the song, “Midnight Cry” and the words were, “I hear the sound of a mighty rushing wind”. It gives me a visual of what it will sound and look like when Jesus comes back to get His children. The words of songs, or inspirational quotes or words written in a book or poem can inspire us and give us hope. The book by Dwayne Morris called “the Outrageous life” inspired me to take the next step in my writing career. I am now reading another inspiring book, “The Circlemaker” by Mark Batterson.

People                      Donna Ward

We all know people who have inspired us to take the next step in our life, or have given us encouragement at just the right time. Maybe it has been a parent, a grandparent, or a brother or sister. My kids inspire me at times to write a prayer or share a story. Our friends, who we choose to do life with, are a great influence on us. When I think of great examples in the world who have inspired me, I think of Billy Graham, Greg Laurie, Beth Moore, my pastor Mike Hamlet and the women’s minister at our Church Donna Ward. These are contagious Christians who have made a difference in my life.               Mike Hamlet pic

An awe-inspiring sunset or sunrise leaving orange and purple skies, the sounds of a waterfall or the crashing waves of the ocean, the moon shining brightly in the dark sky of the night are all evidences of God’s creation. We can be inspired by all of these. Inspiration can come from the high mountains covered with snow in the winter and fall colored leaves in the fall. God’s beauty!                                                                   Sunset sky

We may be inspired many times by the circumstances in our life and the world we live in.  The death of a loved one or pain God has allowed us to go through, a baby sleeping in her mama’s arms as Mama hears the Master whisper in her ears words of inspiration and hope.  Sometimes words come to me in the stillness of the night when I am awakened with something on my heart, which moves me to write it down.  Inspiration, boldness, and courage may come after persevering through a long illness or battle.  You may be inspired by going on a Mission Trip or by a dream or vision God has laid on your heart.

God’s Word, no matter how many times you read it, is alive and active.   It has the power to pierce to our very soul.  God’s word will always inspire me and lay something on my heart I want to share with others.

“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”(Hebrews 4:12 NIV).

Powerful prayers spoken by a mighty warrior of God can inspire you to movement or influence you to create or take the next step God has for you. My inspiration comes to me many times when I am praying “bathtub” prayers. God speaks to me in the tub. When you bow on your knees to the all-powerful, all-knowing and loving God of the universe life changes!!

The Lord

My inspiration comes from the Lord. You were created my dear friends to inspire. The power doesn’t come from you, but from the Creator. The One who has a paintbrush in His hand as He paints the sunsets and the sky, is the One who drew the boundaries of the oceans further than the naked eye can see. He is the One who put the moon in the sky which can be seen from anywhere around the world. He is the Creator who has the inspiring powerful heart and hand, but who just by speaking created the world.

God Doesn’t Need Us

God doesn’t need you and me to carry out what He wants to accomplish. He allows us the opportunities to be a part of this bigger picture, His purpose! If God is the great Creator then how much more can God create and inspire us to create whatever He wants to create through us? He has the power to inspire. Holy inspiration! Powerful inspiration! It all comes from Him ultimately! So go create. Be inspired! My inspiration comes from the Lord, all credits go to HIM!!

You love justice and hate evil. Therefore God, your God, has anointed you, pouring out the oil of joy on you more than on anyone else.” (Psalms 45:3, 4, 7 NLT)
