Aren’t we all curious? Sometimes, you wish you could look into a magic ball and ask it to tell you what’s going to happen next in your life. I remember being a little girl and we would play with the Magic 8 ball, asking it questions and waiting on what the answer would be. This was before “my Jesus days”.
Yesterday was my birthday and I thank God for blessing me with another one. When faced with cancer 27 years ago, my life flashed before me and I couldn’t help but think, “am I going to die?”. It made me value life so much more. I would get up for years and just thank God for giving me another day to live. Now, I thank God for choosing to let me live. I lost my cousin at age 39 to Breast cancer, after my cancer. It was very difficult to lose her and watch cancer take her life.
The only sure-fire way to face the uncertainties of this world, are to go to the One who is the Giver of life and the Taker of life, God! We won’t find the answers through a Magic 8 ball or a Palm Reader. My life is in the Lord’s hands. I don’t take life for granted anymore. The scripture below talks about how we can’t boast about our plans, or what is going to happen tomorrow, because we don’t really know. How do you really know what tomorrow will be like? Life is short, it’s here a little while and then it’s gone. I just want my life to count. If The Lord wants me to keep on living, I want my life to make a difference in the lives of others in someway. I want people to see Jesus in me and somehow draw closer to Him, through my words, my actions, my love for others. I pray daily for God to use me.
So, the next time you want to know what is going to happen tomorrow or in your future, don’t go to the Magic 8 Ball and wait for an answer, go to the One who holds the future in His hands! You might still have to wait for an answer but you can trust your waiting is only for a season and is for a specific purpose!
So, today ask God to do the following:
“Look here, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.” How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. What you ought to say is, “If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that.” Otherwise you are boasting about your own plans, and all such boasting is evil.” (James 4:13-16 NLT)
