As I reluctantly went this morning to have an MRI I was reminded of how we sometimes need to turn up the music to drown out the other things going on in our life. The dreaded IV was started and then I had to lay face down on the table. I was asked what type of music that I like and want to listen to, so I told them I like Contemporary Christian. They gave me a headset to put on my head and turned the music on.

As the soft music is playing and they start the 20 minute process ahead of me I started praying. Then…..all of a SUDDEN a very LOUD noise started and I no longer could hear the music in my ears. All I could hear was this squealing noise. I tried to continue to pray but my focus was so distracted by this loud sound. This continued on and off and my prayers continued on and off. I would hear a song that I like start playing and then BAM…there is that annoying sound again.

When I was laid on the table I was given a little plastic thing to hold that reminded me of what you use to get the snot out of a baby’s nose. I was told that if I need anything just to squeeze and they will come see what I need. I was so tempted several times and I waited, then finally I did! I squeezed! I then asked them to please TURN UP THE MUSIC, of course hoping that it would be louder than the loud startling noise. They did turn it up but as soon as the noise would start again it once again drowned out the music.

As I laid there it reminded me of how life can be sometimes. Life may be going along pretty good and we know God is listening to our prayers and we are listening to Him. Then all of a sudden something comes crashing down on us and it rocks our world and we can’t even pray…much less hear anything but the crisis that we are facing. It temporarily takes our focus off God and the annoyance is so loud in our ears and our life that we are distracted from the truth, the truth that God is still there and we just need to trust Him. He hears us even when we can’t even think to mutter a prayer! He goes before us and is with us!!

Tomorrow is a new day and I wish I could say that I won’t have to listen to that annoying sound ever again, but…I have been called back in for another go round of the MRI machine because some of the images weren’t clear. So, from the get go I will be sure to tell them to “Turn Up the Music”, loud enough that it drowns out the sounds that distracts. As you go through your day…ASK GOD…to help you hear Him over all the annoying distractions that happen throughout your day that so easily entangle and pull us away! Ask Him to help you focus as you pray. He is the One that will calm all your fears! He is The music for our ears!!

“For the Lord your God is living among you.
He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in
you with gladness. With his love, he will calm
all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful
songs.” (Zephaniah 3:17 NLT)
